@ JMKPM

Just happened to catch your 5/27/11 post. I think it's a good post for everyone as many of us have found or will find ourselves in the same situation. You seemed to do everything right & since I don't live in NC (NY & FL) you know the law best. Are you actually required to show your permit if it isn't asked for?

In NY & FL there is no requirement to show your permit unless it's asked for. Your trooper seems to have been new & perhaps a little overly wary. About 10 years ago I was stopped for speeding. It was at the end of the day & I was hot, tired & uncomfortable, so I had taken my piece out of the holster & threw it in the glove compartment.

When the trooper asked for my registration & insurance card, I realized I had to open the glove compartment to get them. I stopped abruptly & said "I have to open the glove compartment & I have my licensed pistol in there." He said "Okay" as if I just told him I had a ham sandwich in there!

So I guess it depends on your appearance & demeanor as well as the trooper's experience. Frankly, I was surprised by his unbelievably calm reaction. Not only that ... I only got a warning; no ticket.

IMO the bottom line is that you & I are only required to obey the law. However, I would not elevate the situation into a crisis by not complying with a trooper's unreasonable request. Comply & file a complaint later on if you feel the situation rose to the level of abuse.

If BB is around he probably knows the Ohio law better than I do, but in Ohio you are supposed to show your permit and advise them of whether or not you are armed. So if I am pulled over I have to show my permit whether I am armed or not. Also, whenever interacting with an officer for whatever reason, you are supposed to let them know if you are armed.

@ Mighty, great info and advice on how to interact with police officers who may or may not be familiar with our local laws. Especially the advice about not escalating anything.

...my pissitivity gland is in f***in' overdrive today...

and bullshit is moot. They aren't 'red'... never were. They are lawyers, doctors of the sciences and education, expert proponents of and from the schools of the liberal arts, some are exceedingly wealthy...

Owners, CEO's and major investors of/in multi-national business conglomerates... oil, included.

All have two things in common- They're 'world'-citizens

and socialists.

The Constitution is purely an inconvenient formality of the present...

I'm just too damn sick to go back-and-forth with any particular issue...

God seems intent to knock the shit outta me for a few more years B4 it mercifully ends...

...I'm stuck in bed now... either in my room or out on the decks' futon polishing my Smithy M586 to a grey-steel gem...or whittlin' away on my rail-spike knifes' wooden sheath- NY Maple... comin' along nicely: I ain't dead yet; Father Creator and my older Brother have things I must be open to do...yet. I spend an incredible amount of time on Google Earth. It gives me a fair view of how well a country or a part of a country is doing. The factory lay-outs, rail-yards, housing, harbours and what type of craft are at dock and/or are visiting, farms, conditions of those ag areas, mines: working and/or closed, observable ecologies of man and nature&etc&etc. All tell a story as compared to what the 'media' is blowing out their confused asses. Googearth is good for a present/to 3-5 year lapse in time... Which, still, gives a good picture on what's going on- World-wide! Like: Europe is almost totally coal(Germany)/nuke-electric. So don't let the libbs fool you on the use of coal. Eu does a good job on filtering the exhausts from coal-fired electric...and...steel-making. Actually, with all our(USA) major mills and fabricating facilities torn down... This kind of leaves the U.S. in the same place Europe and Japan were at the end of WW2s' hostilities...with all or most of their heavy-production in shambles...hm-mm, here come the foreign(world-citizen) investors. What can ya do? -Frankly!The USA should've taken over all 'em defeated countries industry instead of 'forgiving' their debts- And letting the 'owners' re-build...

NO ONE'S 'forgiving' DeeCees' present debt!! 'Allies' my ass...

Rumor has it to buy U.S. minted 99.99% pure silver stock or coin... It has way less $$% fees and govt restrictions than gold... ...so...there ya go!

One more thing my friend, how's Gunny doing? I hope he's back on all fours and thriving! Hang in there and feel the well wishes we're all sending.
