Deer hunting

Postby buckseeker » Sun Mar 11, 2007 9:36 pm

Looking for a different way to harvest the big bucks. I want to buy a pistol, but not forsure what would be the best for me. Any help would be great. Would like it to be big enough to shot an elk if it was in range to.

Any revolver of 357mag or bigger would work fine for your application. The big hunting calibers right now are 454 cassull 480 460xvr and the big 500mag

A nice thing about the 460 is that for target shooting you can fire either 460, 454 cassull, and 45 long colts.

Don't laugh, as I know nothing about hunting and/or hunting rounds. Is there any such thing as a rifle chambered in .357mag?

Actually yes, Rossi makes one. A single shot break action. I think the model is R357

Thats crazy in NJ you have like a week to hunt with shotgun for deer and a few weeks to hunt with muzzle loader!! The rest is bow season!

I have been hunting with nothing but hand guns for more than ten yrs. (except black powder) i use a Ruger super blackhawk a 10" bbl. It has a millet red dot scope and is

dead on 110 yards with 225 gr. barnes x solid copper.

I reload all my hunting rounds, factory loads just don't

make the cut in my book. the lower cost of reloading

allows me to practice with mag loads.

an accurate 1911 with the x bullet i real good for bow

range shooting.

I have been thinking about trying a 10mm for hunting deer. Anyone know much about the 10mm and whether it would be a good deer hunting caliber?

a 10 mm will do the job, how ever it is at the very low end

good bad chart. i don't know of any over the counter

rounds made for this. i might be wrong. if you reload

it may make a good bow range shooter.

good luck.

Thanks a lot,

I am not in to the process of actually purchasing yet. I am only toying with what to get when I do go for a handgun for deerhunting. I am trying to get a good deer caliber in handguns so I no longer have to carry those bulky rifles. LOL!!
