Animal parts usage

I was just wondering if besides the meat and trophy you do andthing with the animals you kill.

Here's what I do:

Make clothes/blankets from the skin/fur, and I tan it myself

make soap from the fat

Make as many of the bones as I can into knife handles, because I am also an amateaur blacksmith

anybody got anything else?

And one time I had some canadian goose down left over from a hunt so I used it to insulate a pair of rabbit fur mittens. Better than any pair of commercial mittens I have ever tried on or worn.

I've heard that the old fashioned rabbit mittens are reallly warm. Did your father teach you all of that stuff or where did you pick it up from?

My father doesn't like guns hunting or fur. No I am self taught. I learn from websites and there are tons of books you can but and I found A lot in my library system. I cheched out stuff on tanning hides, preserving hides, making them into clothing, and general hand sewing techniques. And yes the are very very warm.

Where do you actually go hunting at there? I'm actually familiar with the area and didnt realize there are many places to hunt unless you head a bit west or south onto private property.

I went to school in Glendale Heights.

I hunt rabbits in Lake or Will counties. For ducks I take a trip way down south to marshall county.I hunt whitetails solely in wisconsin cause I have lots of relatives with farms up there so they let me hunt on private land with no hunting pressure for free. Squirrels I go to lee. Same for pheasants. Thank you,

Looks like you have plenty of places to go. I was just curious because it didnt seem like there were many places to go. About the only hunting I did while I was there was for geese on a co-workers friends farm out in Geneva.

After I caught a particularly large snapping turtle I bleached the shell and my snake now uses it as a house.
