Good Deer Rifle for 100-150 Yards?

Postby DOCB » Fri Apr 18, 2008 3:47 pm

What would be a good rifle for taking down a deer at around 100 to 150 yards?

I have a mini 14 and it works good at around 100 yards and I I have a Savage 7mm mag (which is way too powerful at that distance). *(Both have scopes and are very accurate).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

At that range about anything will work fine. Some obviously overkill..... A good ole 30-06 or 30-30 might suite you best.

beltbuckel,

Can you commend a good brand of a 30-06 or 30-30 to check out? (BTW: Thanks for the response).

For a 30-06, A Remington model 700 is a great choice. The 30-30 I used to own was a Marlin lever action I believe. Pretty nice rifle....

Belt gots it right go with a 30-30 i have one for deer hunting and i LOVE it. Very accurate gun. Mine is a marlin lever action also and i love it. On a scale of 1-10 i'd give it a 9.5.

I'm getting the Remmy 700 30-30 here soon. My mini 14 did the job, with not problems or complants, and my 7mm mag what just TOO much, so I was look for a good caliaber rifle for the range I generally shoot (100-150 yards). Thanks yungshooter11! :)

I found a Remmy 700 30-06 for a steal! I'm going to grab it up. They're asking $250 for a like $650 gun, and it's in mint condition. So I've got my deer rifle...YEAH!

Savage also makes an excellent 30-06 for cheaper than the Remington. Though a hair lower in the quality, the price difference between top line Savage and top line Remi's is far bigger than the quality difference.

Yeah, Savage is good. I have a Savage 7mm mag...it kicks, let me tell you. But I found a mint condition 700 Remmy 30-06 for $;250. I couldn';t pass that up...it looked like it came right out of the box. I';ve shot it a few times, it';s nice...I still need a scope and I';m looking for suggestions. Any one?!;?!;?
