Springfield XD 40

Will be purchasing one soon and was wondering what is the best/cheapest ammo that is also reloadable on the market today?

If it is not to late, I would rethink that purchase. These are well made guns, but there are a few things you should know. No police departments that I know of use this gun. That is not a good indicator. The grip safety has to be depressed before you can rack the slide. Not good in a single handed combat situation. The extractor is a spring metal type with unknown reliability. Also, the .40 caliber is powerful but really kicks a lot and is therefore less acurrate and more expensive. Shot placement trumps caliber. I would highly recommend that if you are looking for a combat fighting handgun, that you look at the Glock 19 or S&W M&P 9. IMHO these are the best two on the market.

Havent purchased it yet but I'm pretty deadset on purchasing it. The thing is I'd rather save the money on ammo and just reload the casings that ive already shot but having the extra punch in the round, while gaining some weight, is not as heavy as the .45 and I'll have more rounds to dish out if need be. Just need to figure out which ones.

Good Post Ben! S&W the last time I looked really didn't have great reliability with their Auto's.

It looks like he is purchasing a Springfield XD that shoots S&W 40 bullets and not purchasing a S&W pistol. I think he wants advice on 40 caliber reload supplies.

Under Gear and Ammo there is Reloading. Try doing your post there. Local gun clubs may be able to help you too. I know Hunters & Anglers offers courses on reloading. One of the guys that teaches may be able to help you.

Unloading ammo does not sound like much fun. I use my ammo and load up again. :-)
