I own a 500 field in 12 gauge. It is a fine shotgun and worth the price. I use it mainly for turkey hunting, my gun is completely camo and is great for hunting. Only complaint is that I wish it would hold a little better pattern at longer distances. I had to buy special chokes to get it to hold a reasonable pattern. Any turkey hunter knows a nice tight pattern at longer ranges is very important when hunting.

I own a 500 field in 12 ga also, given to me on my 13th birthday, purchased for $75 at a pawn shop and much older than I am with a 1976ish production date. I've shot against guys with $10k shotguns, and outperformed all of them with my "beater". I have no complaints whatsoever, and I make the fifth Mossberg owner in my family, never a jam or a problem. The best bang for the buck without a doubt.

just bought a lightly used 500A almost exactly like what pictured. got the 28in ribbed barrel with accu-choke. Love the thing! it's my second shotgun and despite all the guys who knock them (because they've never owned one...) the 500 line is amazing!

I was having some trouble with my dad's old 500 but I have two possible reasons: 9 years in a garage and still had factory grease (yes, never even fired!) and also it was 10 degrees! My toes were numb but I was doing fairly good for my first time shooting a vent rib.

I got the 500 Combo model 2 3/4 or 3inch, camo, with the turkey bbl + 3 chokes and a slug bbl with rifle sights around 1986 [?].

I used it in state LE competition [high speed trap] and it was amazing. It has the vent rib with the extra middle sight [smaller ball]. I did get the extra-full choke, but never found it lacking if I used the right loads for the task.

It probably has 20,000 rounds through it & never a problem.

Still have it.

Bought my 500 a few months back and it definitely gets the job done. i have not had very much experience with the comparable remingtons (my buddys got one) but I will say that they feel "tighter" i guess i would say. The forearm on mine wiggles a touch but that is the ONLY quirk I would bring up. It came with a few chokes, 28" barrel like one above, and also a shorter slug barrel with 1x scope I never used. GREAT BUY all around without a doubt.

I've had my 500 for about 4 years now and have nothing but good to say. I originally bought it over the rem 870 because it felt lighter as well as the safety and cycling the action can all be done without taking my hand off of the grip. I'm not worried about the aluminum receiver that most 870 fans will complain about because you can literally beat the crap out of this thing and it will still function. My buddy used a 500 in Iraq and got one of his own when he got back. Mostly been shooting 3-inch slugs lately and it's been holding up just as good as the day I got it

I just got my mossberg 500 field shotgun yesterday it is awesome it is a 12 gauge with a 28" barrel. It is a light gun that is perfect for hunting and trap shooting it is the perfect gun for the money.

I just bought me a 28" ported barrel field model like yours with a gold trigger with the wood stock and wood forend a couple days ago. It is only slightly used for 150 from an 80 yr old man. Yesterday I ordered Ghost ring sights for it, an 18" barrel from mossberg, a black synthetic forend pump, and a black hawk pistol grip spec ops knoxx stock with 6 position adjustment and a universal cheek rest on it. I cannot wait to have all this stuff installed and turn this into my tactical home defense gun. I will keep the 28 inch barrel in case I want to do a little hunting.

Waiting on one last part. The 18.5" barrel with ghost ring front pre-installed and rear ghost ring included. Part number 95303 at which time i will get that stuff installed and then have it cerakoted in stainless.
