Spent a couple of hours on the back 40 with my brother in law and his Hi-Point 380. The gun seemed big and chunky. It felt fine in my hand and trigger squeeze was just fine. It did have problems chambering about a third of the time. I know they will fix it as it is quite common. It was accurate enough for a self defense weapon. I may buy a Hi-Point to plink with but, I would not trust my life with one.

Have the Hi-Point 45 and it isn't a problem. Has always gone bang when I wanted it to.

I'm ex-military and two combat tours and currently a law enforcement officer. I have both a Hi-Point 380 and 9mm wich I purchased initially as a way to affordably get my wife interested in shooting. Before purchasing the two I researched them both on line which I found very informative. Even before going to the range for the first time I knew to polish the feed ramp on both, removing the factory paint and finish and bringing it down to shinny smooth chrome. I also slightly adjusted each magazines teeth out slightly so the ammo would feed more easily. I have put over 800 rounds through each with no Jams and the only missfires have been from cheap Eastern European ammo. I have even used both the 9mm and .380 in friendly competition with other officers' against their personal carry Glocks, and S&W's and you could not see the difference on any target. In fact I out shot the Glocks consistantly. If you are comfortable around hand guns and not afraid to risk adjusting your weapons compnents they are a great weapon- this is a gun I carry as a back up with the correct ammo- Hollow points with no less then 127gr. and would and do use for personal defense without hesitation.

i have owned my hi-point 380 for more than 10 years, great gun for the money. i did have some issues some times when i emtyed the clip on target, after 3rd or 4th round it jamed, clearing jam was easy. i finally decided to call Hi-point service and they told me to open up the two tapered ears on front of clip slightly, seems to cleared problem. just purchased Hi-Point 995 carbine awsome gun.
