hello all, I am new to the handgun world. I'm looking for a gun that will be reliable for home defense and possibly a concealed carry, but something that wont break the bank either. Would anyone suggest the .380 or 9mm for my situation?

I local gun shop has the .40 on hand and through that I stumbled onto these two guns. Definitely in my price range but I need soem feedback before I purchase. Thanks!

380 bullets are hard to find. Anyone know of a good source that has them in stock?

I dont think I would depend on a Hi-Point .380 for concealed carry. Guinn, I have owned one for over 2 years and have never even fired it. I bought it because it was so cheap. I find myself with the trusty S & W Mod.642 snubby in my pocket when I do carry. I think my prefrence reflects many others out there.

I just recently received my Hi-point 380 and I have a question to fellow owners. It makes a rattling sound, rather loud when you move it from side to side. It seems to be coming from the inside of the grips (magazine bay). I just wonder if it is normal on these or if I need to be concerned. Otherwise feels like a solid gun for the money.

thanks for the info stimes5150. I thought it was normal and as yours, mine doesn't rattle, or rattle as much, with the magazine removed. I have yet to test it out, but overall seems like a solid piece at a great price.

I bought some ammo during Cabela's free shipping event, but of course it was all out of stock, but they will ship when it comes in. Not sure why the 380 ammo is so hard to find.

As far as the field stripping, I came across a video on youtube that showed exactly how to do it. You have to take out a pin, so you need some tools to do it. Just search hi-point 380 on youtube and you will find it.
