The Astra A-100 (first appeared in 1990) was an attempt to simplify the A-90 design while retaining the high level of operational safety. The manual safety had been removed and the operational procedures are similar to those of the A-80 pistol.

The Astra A-80 had been patterned after famous Swiss-Germany designed pistol SIG-Sauer P-220. A-80 features wery similar frame and slide shape, similar recoil-operated, locked breech design with improved Browning-style linkless locking and one large lug that locks into the ejection port in the slide. The double action trigger with frame mounted decocker on the left side of the grip is also patterned after the P-220. The A-80 also features firing pin safety, that locks the firing pin away from the cartridge primer untill the trigger is pressed. Another feature that is different from the SIG-Sauer P220 is that A-80 had double stack, high capacity magazines.

The Astra A-90 pistol appeared in 1985 as an improvement over the A-80 in terms of safety. Being very similar to A-80 in all other aspects, the A-90 featured two-piece firing pin with firing pin safety that locks frontal part of the pin, plus ambidextrous, slide mounted manual safety, that, when engaged, removed the rear part of the firing pin from the hammer path, regardless the position of the hammer. Accompanied with the frame mounted decocker, inherited from A-80, this resulted in very safe, but also very complicated design.

does any one know if crimson trace grips for a sig 220 will work on an astra a100 .45.or if a lasermax setup will fit in place of recoil guide spring?

I have an A80 in .45ACP that has never malfunctioned in over 20 years of use. Thats saying something. Sure, its no tack driver, but it gets the job done. I have always considered it a combat weapon, so 2" groups are good enough. "

Just wondering where I could find an ejector/extractor for my astra A-100. I have checke numerous gun shops and catalogs and have yet to find this part. Anyone that could help this would be greatly appreciated...thanks....

Same problem as Ryan. Best gun Ive ever owned, just a problem finding accessories. So is the A-100 a copy of the P226 or the P228. Problem is I live in South Africa and Sigs are pretty rare so I cant compare. Does anyone know if the Fobus paddle holster for the P228 will fit the A100? What about the Crimson Trace Lasermax recoil spring? Thanks

New to this forum so I may not be doing this right.

I want to buy one of each Astra A100 in 40S&W and 45ACP. Can I buy them from this sight or can some one point me in the direction needed to get them?

CiscoKid if you are looking for a inexpensive hi quality hand gun look no further. I have had 2 Astra A100s for 10 and 6 years and am looking to buy yet another because I like them so. The one I have had for 10 years I finally had my first FTE ( failure to eject, just in case you are unfamiliar ) it was with WWB and it was a bit of a sqib round. It went off and put the slug down the barrel but it was a under powered round that sounded a bit dull. I manually worked the action on that round to clear the chamber and went on with out failure to finish out the 100 round box. I have put countless thousands of rounds through this gun and it has performed flawlessly for all these years.

You can buy more expensive lighter guns. But most of them will not shoot any better than these fine pistols and a better price.

As for aim. I am no good at rapid fire at any distance, I can keep it in the black at 10 yards on a small target but to keep it near the bulls eye. Not that good. And that is me not the gun. I can plink a 12 inch metal gong at 50 yards at the local range very easily with this gun almost to the point of boredom.

If a good 9mm is what you are looking for. Buy it you wont regret it. They are a bit heavy. They are all metal no plastic/polymer, the grips are hard rubber and the weight is comparable to a Colt Commander.
