.308 a good brush gun????

i know my r700 .308 is a great field gun, but is it any good for brush and woods work? any one knows anything please give me some imput!

My impression of the .308 is pretty high. It's certainly a well suited round for any number of purposes. The spire point round is an extremely accurate, flat flying round but unfortunately you're going to have problems with it in brush. That spire point will work against accuracy in brush situations because it can easily catch a branch, etc. and that's enough to deflect it. Take a 150 grain .30-.30 SP (round soft point) and that round will bust through an un-Godly amount of crap and still be accurate. I wouldn't consider the spire pointed round to be the optimum choice where you'd be dealing with flight obstructions like you mention. Good luck and welcome to the forum!!

I use to use a 30-30 lever action or a shotgun it the bush, but the Remington 700 in .308 with a heavier round like 180gr would be OK with me too. It's a classic rifle. Used to own one in 30.06. It got stolen along with my 30-30 and my model 1100.

I think you're right on with the Remington Express 308 Winchester 180 Grain Core-Lokt Soft Point. It carries the same design I referred to with the .30-30. Remington carries the .30-30 round in 150 and 170 grain loads. This round nose core locked slug is identical in the .308 load. It should prove to be an excellent brush load out of your 700.
