robalan posted some nice links. Mark Matheny was attacked a few miles from where I live and I carry UDAP spray when I leave my house. Spray is my first choice. I have known many people who have used spray successfully against grizzles. I have used it only on black bears.

tig, No disrespect felt at all, I did ask for your and others opinions. I will try to find a bigger caliber to fire.

I did fire a 1911 45acp and was able to stay on target about half the time after a few clips. I'm glad the range is only about 10 miles away. I plan to buy a gun in a few months. The only gun I know will buy will be USA. Everything else is up in the air.

Stuck on buying American.....I have 3 words Kimber, Kimber, Kimber. Made in the good ol USA. Yonkers NY and absolutely top shelf. I have 4 and love em all! (Ultra Carry II, Pro Carry, Aegis and the new Solo....first 2 .45acp, the last 2 9mm)

I agree with Tig and Will... I like the Ruger Super Redhawk in .44 Mag. I have a bad wrist and I can deal with this one pretty well. Also, the Alaskan in .454...it's a shorty but it has tons of power.

@ geoff

If you're worried about GRIZZ, forget about what kind of pistol to buy ... just make sure you always travel with at least one person who can't run as fast as you.

The best defense is always a bear eating someone else ... especially ... someone you owe money to! Nuff said?
