Hi, I am new to this forum and am in the Army. I am about to return home and was planning on getting a new pistol when I did and I have decided to go with a 40 cal SW. right now I am trying to decide between the following in order of preference:

FNH FNX-40

Sig P2022

Springfield XDM

Ruger

Was hoping for any feedback you all could give on any of these weapons.

Check out the S&W M&P, especially the compact model before you buy. I'm a 1911 guy myself, but if I had to choose something else, that Smith just feels right and is not as pricey as the others (except the Ruger.) If price is the issue, you might save a few bucks there. Glad to have you back safe and sound. Thanks for your service to our country.

@GI Dave:

Hello Dave and let me preface this with my thanks for your service. Stay safe buddy and kiss the ground when you get off that plane! Kiss the ground that you and so many of your brothers and sisters are willing to die for and those that have...

All of your selections are polymer, so we'll put that spec aside while discussing the rest. I'll do my best to break them down for you so you've got an impression of each. First of all, my prices and information come mainly from Buds Gun Shop. They're an excellent online dealer!

FNH FNX .40 is a nice pistol that is fully ambidextrous that comes with three 14 round mags, which is a big plus! It's made in America and runs around $495.00. Reviews are high.

Sig 2022 is an excellent pistol and the price of this Sig is considerably lower than most other Sigs. The one I looked at for this review had a five out of five review. It only comes with one mag (12+1) but had night sites installed. The price comes in around $406.00!

Springfield XDM .40 Good, tough handgun! It's heavier than most and if you're going to carry, you should check it out before buying one sight unseen. They're very reliable, accurate, and affordable @ $524.00 for a black standard model. Comes with 2-16 round mags and case.

Ruger SR40 is a very popular newer model pistol from Ruger. First reviews of it are great! Ruger is well known for a tough as nails firearm. I hear the fit is outstanding. It has an angled grip that almost makes the pistol an extension of your arm. Just point your finger and shoot!! It comes with 2-15 round mags and case. I'd take a look at this one! Price is more than reasonable at around $400.00 bucks.

Glock 23 .40SW is my choice for you. It is and has been my favorite subcompact .40. It's completely reliable and for me has been perfect out of the box. It's lighter @ 21 oz empty and 24 fully loaded. Has a 10 and 13 round magazine, with basic white outline sights. I'd opt for the night sites given the option. Price comes in around $500.00 bucks.

Let me know if you have any other questions. There is a number of us out here that are more than willing to lend a hand. Welcome to the forum!!
