OK, so Ive had the sig p225 9mm for a while and while I do love how it shoots I am rather thin and the handle is too long for me to comfortably carry it concieled. I am thinking of getting a springfield xd sub-compact. The .40 is I think too much bullet in too little of a gun for me. I need some clarification here. If I get the .357 is that less powerfull? And can I feed .380 ammo in it on the cheap for at the range? I heard this and dont know how that works. I was thinking of getting it in 9mm. All these choices boggel a beginners mind.

I don't think .380 will chamber in a .357 sig gun. I think you are confusing .357magnum with .357sig.

.357 magnum is a rimmed revolver cartridge and .38 special is a lower powered round that will chamber in guns for it but not vice versa.

I would go 9mm simply because it's a far more accessable and inexpensive round to practice with. The .357sig is more powerful but for me if I was to step up from 9mm in the same gun I would go .40S&W. It's more readily available and I don't think you'd notice that much difference in recoil from the .357sig.

If you are worried that the 9mm is not powerful enough I think most with XD experience will concur that the XD is exceptionally well designed and built so the .40 won't beat you up too much.

For me personnally I would go 9mm in a compact. I'm 5'11" 182lbs.
