new pistol for the military

hey what pistol/caliber do you guys think should replace the M-9? i would personally like to see a 10mm. that would be a very useful military round. better range, barrier penetration and 1 shot stopping power. aslo this would make the 10mm a much more popular round, thus lowering the cost (wich would make me happy, since i own a glock 20).

what do you guys think?

They'd need to use the one gun that could handle the round, Your G20! I think the military wants a double action manual safety gun though. I like the Sig220, it seems to fit the requirements and has the good ol .45.

40 S&W for the same reason alot of law enforcement agency's and the FBI use it.

It's a good intermediate round that is easy for both women and men to use effectively and has good stopping power.

For the gun, The PX4 would fit the bill plus the army already has contracts with Beretta!

But remember they use ball ammo, thats why I'd want the .45.

that is true glocks, they want a da/sa weapon with decocking lever. so the glock would be out. i think they will prob. end up going with a sig or an hk. and i would definately like to see it in .45.

the px4 is a commpact gun right? i,m not realy familiar with them. but i know a full size weapon is one of the requirements

mabey .357 sig would be a good round to consider too.

That rounds still not highly popular, supposedly it mimics the 125gr .357 magnum in tests, but theres not enough street info to really get solid results. I know some police forces have chosen that round, and it's known for feeding well with its bottleneck design. I fired the .357sig in an HK P2000, very snappy and very loud, but yet controllable in that little gun, should be fine in a full size.

Me personally, I'd like the .45 better too. But there are plenty of people in the military that cant handle it, which is part of the reason they went away with it.

.357 sig would probably be a good round too. I dont have much experience with it so I cant really give a good opinion.

The PX4 has a 4.25" barrel, I guess I dont know what the specs were for the army. The 92 currently used has a 4.9"

its really to bad that the military wont consider glocks. i think the glock 21's recoil is more controllable than the berreta M-9. the only prob with the 21 is the grip size, but they could prob use the 21SF instead. that should fit evrybodys hands

Considering the harsh conditions alone Glocks would be a top choice, they require so little maintenance.

yeah, thats true, i think the only thing holding them back is the lack of a manual saftey.

another gun that might be a good choice is the S&W MP. they have a manual saftey option avalible. i jhave never fired one personally, but i have read good things
