Yeah iv'e had my friends say it was stupid for me to train with defence tactics in every room of my house. I train in areas of my home where i frequent the most.Like draw fire move to cover that sort of thing of course the gun is UNLOADED

Well I guess it could look funny if someone saw you!lol But theres nothing stupid about being better prepared.

nothing stupid about it personally i'd keep the windows covered when you're doing it the less ppl see the less they know.. and i have to agree with Glock nothing better then being prepared,,,, my Fiance had an issue with the neighbor she worked with being followed home at 2 am or so i got called she's not really big on me having a gun but she told me to come out with the gun i went out with 2 mags totalling 26 rounds and a set of handcuffs...

I do it all the time when no one is home. I have 2 kids in a rambler house and basement. All bedrooms on the main floor. I practice where I can safely fire and not blast through a wall of a bedroom. Which wall I should lean toward to angle down a hall away from a kids room. Where is an outside wall with no window. Where are the creaky floorboards or stairs to the basement. Nightly while making the all lights off/doors locked rounds I make mental notes of where the piles of homework and books are on the floor.

Sounds manic but we live in a part of Seattle that is slowly being edged in by multiple family units and the crime rate is slowly going up. Two break-ins (one a next door neighbor in daylight) in the last 9 mos. none on our street in prior 12 years. Last night I came home after dark to see a guy smoking a cig. in the bushes of our 80 yr old neighbors I stared him down and he got up and moved to the far side of the bushes out of sight he thought. I called 911 and after 5 minutes of explaining they said they would make it a priority and send a car passed the house. No car ever came and my wife watched the guy 20 minutes later go across the intersection and disappear while watching our house.

Yeah I caught a guy trying to get into my nabors bsement window. I watched for like ten seconds and he moved to the livingroom window i was on my front stoop with my maglite witch also makes a nise batton.I put the lite on his face so he could not see me and said "HEY YOU WHAT THE FU#K ARE YOU DOING"scarred the crap out of him.He replied "I'M JUST TRYING TO GET HOME"by this time the cops were well on there way.He took off into the woods but the cops got him a block away they followed his footprints in the snow and told me he was soaking wet with no coat in 1below zero weather and was above the alcohol limit by 3 times. Then some guy that had been in a fight walked up to my front window like 4 months later with his face all bloody so I dont like to be unprotected when I am at home. So i keep a 357 by my side at all times in the house.

i see nothing wrong with what you are doing at home as long as you are being safe i mean there is no better way to prep yourself for action then to get the muscle memory going. i am a weapons instructor for one of the navy's anti terrorism units and we do room clearing drills in out locker room beacuse that is the kind of situation you would run into lots of nooks and cranies... knowing the cover and protected zones in your house gives you an extremely good advantage over joeshit the ragman who is looking to do you harm in your own home. it really is the home court advantage

not silly or stupid whatsover, heck i do it all the time, my appartment is in a crappy neghborhood, i have drug dealers on both sides of me, i've found all the entry points, and exit for that mattter, found the best covor area's, what walls i can shoot through if i have to, i've even gone as far as scouting lines into my home incase i ever come home and the door is no longer attached to the frame, its sad these days when you cant feel safe in your own home but in the world we live in, i keep my weapon on my hip wether im at home or out, but there is deffinately nothing wrong with familiarizinig yourself with your homes layout and having a solid practiced plan of defense

I don't think it's stupid either. It is a great advantage to know where the best place is to attack your intruder. I practice clearing my house on a regular basis for the same reasons you guys do. So by all means keep up the good work.

I like to leave a small or dim light on near the doors. I do this so that the home invader becomes a silhouette target as soon as he breaches the door. Big tactical advantage for me because i'll probably be in a dark bedroom.

Since the consensus is that clearing drills are a good idea, I think the logical "next step" is to pick the brains of our esteemed membership. I would like to get some recommendations from those of you that have experience in this area of expertise. A lot of us have good idea's, but I think few of us are actually trained and proficient in this life and death action.



Is it possible to have those of you with training in this area, to share some of your knowledge? I for one would be very grateful for your time and suggestions. I know that a verbal description of something so physical won't do the drill justice but it's a start! Anything you can provide will be much appreciated!!
