cheap body armor for home defense

Here is something I started thinking about during my time in the desert. Most gun fights can be defined as a two way gun range. Even if someone is breaking into your house, there is a chance the criminal will be armed with a firearm. Modern soft body armor that will stop a handgun or buckshot is quite cheap, and is a good place to velcro a flash light, or attach ammo holders. I paid 250 dollars for a good vest and hang it in my closet next to my shotgun. The simple vest holds a flashlight, and some extra buckshot. Hopefully I will never have to test it on myself, but at least I am ready. If you are debating between one gun for 800 dollars or buying a second home defense gun; and getting a soft armor vest you should take some serious consideration into it. If a crash of glass awakes me in the night, it takes only and additional 2 seconds for me to don the vest.

In that two seconds you could be dead. Id already have my pistol loaded with a clip in it and already fired as they were coming through the door with the laser sight on the middle of their head.

Body armor is a good idea. If you expect to use a gun you must be thinking they could have one too. If there is time and you have it, use it. I like the mention of the flashlight. It is allways good to know what you are shooting at. DESCLA, you are right 2 seconds is an long time (just ask anyone who has thrown a handgrenade!) but atleast use cover. If you do buy body armor rember to do two things. Check the "threat level" that tells what it is rated to stop And check the law on posesion of the armor as it is ilegal is some places, stupid I know but still.

Just remember the Flashlight also lets the Bad Guys know where you are! Are we really to the point where we need Body Armor in our Homes? Sex cannot be as much fun! LOL

LOL, Good one Will!

But In S. Florida, a Tee-Shirt is about as much Body armor as I want to wear! Even in Winter a Suit is unbearable! Guess I'll just have to take my chances.

I saw some body armor at the gun show Sat, and guess what. It wasn't cheep, lol. I suppose next to the stolen military hard aromr it was. This stuff was "new" manufactured in 1985 and was threat level 3. I use level 3A on the range in my classes. Just remember, a lawenforcement officers life is worth more than yours. This stuff was marked "LE ONLY" and I saw LOTS of ammo that was for "LE ONLY" (12Ga civilian stuff works for me)

LOL!! You wear a vest while teaching your students? You must not have a lot of confidence in their shooting ability. I guess you must've had a close call at one time. I've never seen another CCW instructor wear a vest but after thinking about it, it's a good idea.

That's a new one for me as well! I have never seen any Rangemasters wearing Vests. The only bad part is everything we make available to the Good Guys, usually ends up mainly on the Bad Guys! I read an Article just Today where 90% of all confiscated Guns in Mexico come from the U.S.

I guess there are a lot of "Good Guys" that are not so good!
