Saiga-12 shotgun for skeet,5-stand, and Sport.Clay

Postby Brad270 » Wed Jul 28, 2010 3:27 pm

I use a Saiga shotgun for skeet, 5-stand, Sporting Clays and Action Shooting (3-Gun). For those of you not familiar with it, think of it as a magazine fed semi auto shotgun that when properly equipped, is a 12ga AK-47 (same action). The magazine provides for fast reloading time in a 3-Gun competition which blows the standard quick loaders away. A 10 round mag in Sporting Clays allows the squad to move faster. The barrel comes threaded so that I could put on a poly-choke for longer range targets. It is also quite the conversation piece (scares the horses sometimes) when I put it up on the rack next to over/unders.

A 10 round mag would be an amazing weapon.

I always used the X-full choke for high-speed trap.

Chokes are for my Moss 500 20 inch Turkey bbl I used to compete with. X-Full choke was for 'high-speed' trap.

Don't have a Saiga, yet. With a few 10 rnd mags, it would seem to be a great piece.

I think I'll check 'em out... again.

At the high point 10 round mags were selling for $100 apiece. If You are looking at the 20 round drums, be sure to get the MD-20 and not the other one which is awkward to use. I believe they are down to about $100 from a high of $300. Both mags are USA made so you can use them for your required American parts list. Tapco makes an M-4 style adjustable stock to fit the Saiga which will also add to your required list. Add a pistol grip and you are ready to rock and roll.

Too cool to have a 12 ga semi shotgun wit 5- 10 round mags!

I'd probably melt the barrel! LOL

When I loaded up the 20 round drum and bump-fired it, the barrel did heat up a bit. I also was a couple of feet back of where I started.

The ten round mag works fine for a ten round station of Sporting Clays and doesn't heat up the barrel all that much. It certainly keeps the squad moving along faster.

If I ever find a great deal on a handful of 10 shell mags... I don't think I'll be able to resist the Saiga Semi !!

I think that after November, the price will start really coming down. People were buying Saigas and accessories like crazy in 2008 (I wonder why). Prices have just started coming down the last 6 months, so once it appears that they won't become part of a proposed ban, they will become more reasonably priced.

One thing everyone learned very well from Clinton & Daley... is that 'Gun & Mag BANS' only serve to promote violent crime.

Chicago has proved twice this year, that 'banned handguns' kill 'Armed Home Invaders' just as well as legal handguns. LOL
