One in complete picture? Well here goes, this is all I can tell you with what you've provided.

Your pistol actually says:

Colt Automatic

Calibre 455

This is not .45acp but .455 (probably Webley)

I'll need the actual serial # to be accurate but likely this is one that was issued to the British Royal Navy, Horse artillery or the air force in the WW1 era.

The "not English make" was simply part of a proof mark from Great Britain. Having this means is was proofed prior to 1955. They had two proof houses at that time. London and Birmingham.

Without complete pictures this is all I can tell you.

Glock vs 1911 I know this is an old thread, but wanted to comment. Had a Glock 30, not a handsome gun but reasonably priced and never had a malfunction. Easy to strip and clean. Had a 1911, a little more expensive, heavier, harder to get apart. That said, the 1911 just feels right! It's like an extension of your hand. Unfortunately had to sell both, will soon get another 1911.
