What about extra 9mm 15 rnd magazines?- should I stick to Beretta/Stoeger factory made or does anyone have good/bad experience with the after market ones?

All of the guns you list are good. I might just get the S&W because I could use +P for better power in a defensive situation. 380 is second choice in any gun.

Hey Hammer, I bought mine direct from Beretta when they became available so I really can't help you on after market stuff for the Cougar. I have used off brand on other Berettas I own as well as a Sig that my wife owns and have never had a problem. If money isn't an issue and it really never should be for reliability of a handgun, I'd go with the Factory stuff, at least if it was for carry/defense rounds.

Mine has the special edition black wood "Cat" grips that it came with from Beretta. I wouldn't dream of puttin' the rubber to em. They feel GREAT just the way they are. If I did have the plastic checkered grips like my buddy does, I would probably swap em out for wood as I did with my 92FS.

My dad has had the Cougar 8000 for about 6 months now and after I shot 10 rounds from it I went and picked me one up. I have had it for a week now and have put 150 downrange and no problems at all. I have used the worst possible combination of brands and I can't GET it to fail. Very solid gun and I'm glad I got mine when I did. The store had four when I got mine and a week later there's only one left. Whatever accesories that fit the Beretta will fit these. VERY satisfied and would recommend it to anyone.

Did you get the Stoeger or the Beretta? I was looking at a used Beretta compact 8000 9mm recently for $400. I love the 8045 I have as does everyone that shoots it.

I got the Stoeger for $400. Still an unbeatable deal for what it is. I just wish it had the assesory rail like the .45. I get people to shoot a few rounds on the range for opinion and everyone so far loves it. Fits like a glove and hardly any recoil.

Yeah, that's my take on the .45 as well. Grab one if you ever get the chance and have a desire for a .45. I really nevr wanted a .45 after shooting the guns a couple of friends have but this one is different. Now my wife shoots this all the time when not using her Sig. Go figure........enjoy your new purchase.

just got my brushed steel cougar 8000 in .40 cal today. paid $440 with tax, $419 without. came with 2 11RND mags, 2 brushes, a pushrod and box /papers ect. broke it down.......inside of the barrel even though the gun is brushed steel.......was black as the night, looked like 10 years of gunk built up in it.........turns out its supposed to be that way?

anyway took it to the range, with some Fiocchi extrema JHP. 700 rounds to be exact. also picked up 8 aftermarket mags dirt cheap. loaded up and blew through all 700 rnds without a jam, misfire, FTF FTE or stovepipe. was shooting 1" groups at 10 yards 2 at 25. rotating barrel definately makes a positive mark in the accuracy. ...........i say......great gun! great price! im selling my taurus pt92 and using this as my duty gun from now on ;-)
