Long Range Pistol

Can a pistol be accurate within 100 yards? If so what kind of calibers, brands, ammos, are available.

How accurate are you talking? My buddy and I can hit the concrete stone that holds the metal stands for the frame set out at 100 yards with compact guns. I would say if I could hit that I'd be able to hit a human sized target at that distance, but wouldn't be able to place the shot in a particular area, just hit it somewhere.

I'm looking for a pistol I can put a scope on before hunting season. The bigger the better. I'm contemplating getting a .50, but it might be overkill.

dalonelyranger, if your looking for a hunting gun then a .50 is not overkill, remember that your shooting it out of a shorter barrel and with less punch than a .50 bmg.

you also have the option of going with a 460, 454 and even a 44 magnum.

all of this in a revolver with an 8 inch barrel that you can fix a scope on and nail a deer easily at 100 yards. look at what smith and wesson has to offer

Thanks for the information, its hard for me to grasp the concept that a pistol can easily drop a target at 100 yards. I think this years hunting season is going to be a lot more interesting, I'm tired of using shotguns.

it's not if you use a scope dalonelyranger, i have actually tried along with some buddies in a friendly competition to shot at a target at 100 yards with a friends .44 mag (S&W-29) with adjustable sights and all of us where able to get 2 out of five on the target. we were of course shooting from a supported rest. but it is doable.

If you want to save some $$$, you could get a .50 cal black powder pistol. You just have to make that first shot count.
