Recoil out of different barrel lengths...

Postby justinfluegel » Thu Apr 26, 2007 8:49 pm

I want to purchase a compact pistol in the .45 cal. I have heard that a longer barrel reduces the kick, and with a short barrel even a 9mm can kick like a long barrel .45. Is this true or is there other aspects of the gun that cause/reduce recoil aspects? (ie Chamber design, bolt)

I'm deciding weather I should in reality go with a full sized pistol instead of the compact.

Usually the heavier the gun, the less recoil. Other things can effect this, but just speaking generally the weight is the biggest difference. If you want a full size, go for it, but I have a Glock 36 (slim line, compact .45ACP) and I have no trouble with recoil at all.
