I would question the quality and legality of any $300 1911, new in the box!

Check gun shows etc. for a used 1911, stick with established makers & take someone with you that knows 1911s.

Cheap 1911s run you about 450 to 550, what your looking for is a used 1911 if all you want is to familiarize yourself with it. Try the gun shows

even the used 1911s are going for what you quoted. gun shows are a good idea. i see s&ws,rugers and taurus all for around that price.

Look at Gundirectory.com for a seller named Bellshireguns . He sold me my Rock Island 1911 and I was very pleased. Brand new its $325 for buy it now. Ive been to 7 gun shows this year and never seen a 1911 new or used for this price. Why pay more? Unless youre a politician...

I like the way it shoots. It has those itty bitty fixed sights, but I took a punch and gently moved it just a bit to line it up. Then I filed a bit off the front sight and applied a tiny dab of white out. That seemed to cure its tendency to shoot low and left of the target. I got some Hogue grips off ebay to replace the pretty standard wooden ones. Fits into a Fobus holster so well its easy to forget that you have it on. Go buy one!

I would coconutbay but I live in California where they have all sorts of restrictions for the good guys but not the bad guys in fact they just passed a law that forbids us to use more than 2 sheets of toilet paper.
