Yesterday I had the great chance of shooting the Russian M44 Carbine. This was the bolt action rifle that was produced in the mid-war and post-war period of WWII. I had so much fun shooting this gun! It was just a beast really. The M44 shoots 7.62 x 54r rounds. I know it sounds very uncommon doesn't it. The "r" at the end stands for Rim. It is rimmed like the .22 bullets and the .30-30. another gun that uses this round is the dragunuv (I hope I spelled that right) ... The M44 will make your shoulder sore if you don't wear something on the butt of the gun like a towel or you have a jacket on. the recoil makes the gun so much fun to shoot! my friend that owns the gun was standing to the left of me about 4 feet away from the muzzle of the gun and the gun pushed him backwards some. It had incredible power. now the best part is this............... You can get this gun for 80 dollars or cheaper. no more than 100 dollars. People have warehouses full of this gun so it is very cheap. It also has a bayonet that is pretty wicked. And the ammo is dirt cheap. 2.50 for 15 rounds if you can find it. and 10.00 for 20 rounds that are pretty nice. plus the ammo is a good investment, it is close to water proof, and it won't corrode like the .30-06. they still dig the ammo up in parts of old Russia and shoot it to this day. After shooting it, I shot my .22... the only sound I heard was... "pink" "pink" when I shot it. "did my gun jam?" I asked my friend. Thought I'd share the great news. I can't wait to buy this gun next week! I can't wait to shoot my friends Springfield 1903 Bolt Action rifle next!
