I cannot believe this weapon hasent gotten more reveiws. This is the basis of most sniper and long range competion guns on the market today! The action on this rifle is rival to none, just made perfectly!
haha I know!!! I WAS DYING FOR THIS GUN!!! Amazing I was pist because they stopped making the pss for the public.. or at least thats what I was told by the gun shop I go to. They still use this weapon today as a sniper rifle and have been using it for awhile!!
This is like the 300 ultramag 700? I acquired a gun safe will 5 guns as payfor labor, and it includes a remington 300 ultramag, beautiful gun, but i am blind. I "SOLD" the ultramag in an auction here a few days ago, but the buyer was a fraud I guess. Can i post another auction without paying the fee? I can not pay the fee until i actually get money from the "SALE" and i think that is not going to happen?
The PSS is still made and although there few and far between in the market place. They can still be found. It is a fine weapon. I've had the trigger tuned to 2.5 LB's. It's topped with a ZEISS 6.5-20x50 scope. Three rounds in the same hole at 100yds, three rounds in the space of a nickel at 300yrds. One sweet 308, wouldn't trade it and won't sell it at any price.
this rifle is awesome. .308 on point everytime.
I carried this as an M24 in 308 while playing in the sandbox. I love it. Superior to any bolt gun under 2 grand out there. It has been the main stay work horse for US Military snipers for 40 years. That has got to count for something. Not as good as a semi for under 800m tangos, but past that this is king of the 308.
witch remington 700 in the .308 is the best?
I just bought one in .308. with the synthetic stock. I am replacing my model 70 Winchester that I bought in 1967. The barrel on my Winchester is shot out and I only paid about $100 more for this Remington than it would have cosm to re-barrel.
First - After the model 70 this thing is so light that it feels like a toy.
Second - After zeroing in this gun puts the bullet right where I want it every time
would you sell it for a million $? lol
whats up guys? rem 700's are prob one of the best bolt rifles out there for the money.
what kind of scopes do you guys have on yours
hey guys, newbie here, I was just wondering if this gun is good in 30.06, it seems every1 posting has it in .308 and loves it, i am really interested in getting this in the synthetic model, SPS i believe, would be my first gun, shot my cuzin's 30.06 and 45-70 while back in indy and fell in love with big bore rifles, i was thinking from the start 30.06 or .308, so which ever is better, if 1 is better.
A remington 700 is great in anything, I have 9, from .223 to .300 WM, including 30-06. I free float the barrels, that is, remove the little bedding pad at the forend, work over the trigger, and shoot. Stay out of the trigger if you don't understand how it works! Working it kills the warranty. I don't have a one that won't turn under and inch with good handloads. Great rifle, in any caliber.
I'd like to shoot a 700, probablely .223 ammo...cause I have a mini 14, so I wouldn't be buying all kind of different caliber ammo.
How does it shoot with .223? Any recoil (hard/soft...I know there will be some recoil).
I LOVE my Savage 7mm mag! Drops anything at the drop of a hat, so I don't have to worry about tracking if I don't hit the kill in the (hear/chest area). That's always a bitch...and then you have that much further to get'em back to camp. D'oh!
Let me know about that 700. I have a 870 Remmy shotgun & it's the best shotgun I've ever had!
I have a model 700 ADL Synthetic in 30-06. I lightened the trigger to about 4lbs and added a muzzle brake and a Limbsaver Barrel Deresonator. I have it topped with a Leupold VX-II 3-9x50 in Leupold rings and a bridge mount and normally shoot from a bipod. The tightest group that i have ever shot with mine was a 3 shot group that measured right at 5/8" @ 100 yards. It's been a great deer rifle for the past 8 years and is very accurate out to 400 yards (thats the furthest ive taken a shot with it).
kappaalphaasu, (Are you a fraternity man?)
That sounds like you got that thing ready to rock and roll. Didn't know they made a muzzel brake for it...BIG PLUS! I can't wait to get mine...I'm going to get the all weather model, scope it UP and have her ready for deer seasons (I'll have the Mini 14 & Savage 7mm mag to keep the Remmy company). Plus I always carry a pistol when I'm hunting.
What kind of trigger work did you have done to it...reduce the pull (in lbs) on it?
That pattern is similar to my Mini 14 (scope Leupold VX-L 4.5-14X50 MAT B&C ...at the range. I've dropped deer at 400 plus with the 7mm mag (massive Nikon Field Scope 20-60x60 Angled Body ED, Zoom Eyepiece). So there usually not a problem to hit, it it's clear (not brush/tree clusters...ect).
Hello, Kinda new to this. I just purchased the 700 XCR/RMEF 300 Ulta Mag. I wanted to get the 300 wsm. After shooting the RUM, I am glad I bought it. It has the camo synthetic with that all weather stainless. I put a VX1 3x9x40.
I also have the 700 in the BDL 270 w/ the vx2. I thought about switching the scopes but was told by leupold rep that these days your getting the vx2 in the vx1. Only diff I noticed was the turrits did not click.
I just got this rifle. mine's in .270 win. with the black synthetic stock. the scope it came with is not the best, it's a tasco 3-9x40. but, it did the job at the range. I got the rifle used in like new condition for $265, great rifle! it's my second Rem. 700, my first had a camo stock in 30.06, it too was a great rifle, just really old. that's why I had to have another one.
I have a Howa/Axiom 308 Cal. rifle with a bull barrel. Has anybody else bought one of these. I am curious to get their information on how they like the gun. I was very pleased with the accuracy out of the box and even more pleased with the 70% decrease in recoil. The gun has a assault type stock and a normal forearm and barrel arrangement that is all in composite material. The forearm along with the barrel compresses the spring in the stock and absorbs the majority of recoil. The last time I went to the range I shot 5 rds. in the center circle, 4 of which were touching each other from a bipod. Let me know if anyone has any information. Thanks.
can anyone tell me the difference between the 700 and the 770 i don't see much aside from possibly barrel length, they both offer the same calibers from what i've seen???????????
