A few nights ago, I was in the kitchen at about 10:45 (lights were off in the house, everyone was a sleep except me)when I heard a "thump" on the front door. I thought at first I was tired and it was something else, but I heard it again. I peeked through the kitchen window and what I saw shocked me. A siloughete of a man I didn't know trying to break into the house. However, he turned his head, realized he had been spotted, and ran out of sight. I was going to dial 911, but the man was gone before I realized what was going on. Now this was a lot to take in for a naive 16 year old guy who lives in a duplex, in the middle of a subdivision. I never would have thought that someone would have tried here. It was a very sobering event. However, as I reflected on what happened, I realised the man was probobly just checking to see if the door was unlocked so he could get in. When he learned he couldn't, and was seen by someone in the house, he ran as fast as he could. However, a scenario much worse came to mind. What if the man had gotten inside, and carried a weapon? My dad doesn't own a firearm, so the thought of being at a gun party without a gun really scared me. That was when I thought that keeping a pistol for home defense would be a good idea. I want to be able to protect my future home and family from anything that is thrown my way. I know that I can't own a firearm just yet, but I would like to know as much as I can before it is my time to buy one. I know that there are different calibers, such as 9mm, 40sw, and 45acp just to name a few. I also understand that some deliver more knockdown power than others, like the 45acp (along with more kick). I also understand that it is NOT good to use a DE because the 50AE round over penetrates. But, I am a newbie in such things, so hearing some experienced users would definitly do me some good. Sorry for such a long post, any other posts from me won't be this long. I will just post the necessary info from now on. Thanks guys, and nice site!
