Sig P226 vs. CZ SP-01 ?

Postby BearArms » Wed Dec 28, 2011 6:29 pm

With a bit of research, I have found these two guns (Sig P226 and the CZ SP-01) for about the same price (both 9mm and both with a rail)

In terms of a gun for home protection, which of these two guns ranks higher in terms of reliability and being most accurate? I realize both Sig and CZ make quality handguns, so we may be splitting hairs in this one -- but anything you can offer would be much appreciated!

thank you in advance!

I'd say the Sig wins out easily.
They have sooo much going for them, both are too heavy for ME to carry all day, though.
I've acquired a 22 ounce max weight limit, no exceptions.

I'm really digging my SP-01. It's very accurate with a sweet trigger and night sites. It's well built and heavy enough to keep the pistol steady when rapid firing. It is a quality peace. I have never shot the Sig 226. I'm sure it's a fine handgun too.

I was issued one of the early Sig 226s as a duty arm when they were fairly unknown, when LE was converting from revolvers to semis. We were given 9mms. I didn't like them compared to my .357 Mag S&W model 586. By comparison, it was a weeny round.

Years later, after getting used to it, I got a newer one and they upgraded our ammo. I came to love the ease of breaking it down + acquired the mind set of firing 6-7 rounds in a blink as opposed to the standard 'double-tap' of the revolver.
The Sig was a complicated bugger compared to my revolver, but I learned it.

I never did get to a CZ, but I have known many pros who have held them in high-regard.
