Taurus 45/410 combination-what applications?

This combination what are best applications? Mtn. gun for protection (bear/cougar) or a snake/people gun?

Is the 45 the acp or long colt?

It is the Colt 45, but keep in mind the chamber is longer than normal so the 410 will also fit. The extra space is not rifled.



The combination sounds neat, but it has limited applications. If you want a Colt 45 for self-defense you are better off not getting one with a longer than needed chamber and if you want a 410 for hunting you don't want the rifling. But if you just want a cool gun buy it or you may want to get a Bond Arms which is even cooler.

It would be a great snake/rodent gun, with the possibility of being effective for large 4 legged critters as well. It seems best suited to 410 use and if you believe that the systemic shock of multiple sub lethal hits will be effective (it is what drops gamebirds and small game with a shotgun) then the 410 buckshot loads are the answer. If you plan to use it for the 45 Colt, then there are probably better choices. Can't beat the versatility though. Interesting note - it could be illegal to carry as a sidearm while bird hunting in some states which have a shotgun capacity limit while hunting, if it was loaded with shotshells, and depending on the exact legal wording of the law and the warden's zeal.

I almost bought one because I thought it might be good for small game. The problem is that the barrel has rifling which spreads the shot out much wider than a regular shotgun. Several sources informed me it is so wide that it would not work for small game. You may have a chance of getting a snake that is real close. I remember seeing someone on Youtube trying to shoot a rabbit. It didn't work very well. As for self-defense with the 410, well you will probably hit the bad guy and anything around him. If you are lucky it will just be someone's car.

it is not the perfect weapon,but it has its place, great for inside to outside the car short range app, and home defence and a nice g.p. trail or hiking&sportmans gun,hey taurus found a nich and they bin selling like hot cakes,there is a reason for that......know matter what we think...

If people decide to load them with 410, I am hoping they keep them in the home or out on deserted trails. I think it is a neat gun too, but just don't want to get shot by some fool that is trying to defend himself with the wrong weapon. Load them up with the Colt 45 guys and leave the 410 home.

In order to meet federal regulations against sawed off shutguns, Taurus had to make this pistol with a rifled barrel. To reduce "the doughnut effect", where the shot is slung outward as it leaves the barrel, Taurus reduced the twist of the rifling. This makes the 45LC rounds less accurate and only reduces doughnutting. So you have the worst of both worlds. Yet everyone I have ever known who has owned one loves them! Taurus is selling them like hot cakes.

It is marketed as an automobile defense gun. It will stop a carjacker but the shot won't carry far and is less likely to harm innocent bystanders. If you have never seen the Taurus video you should look at it. It demonstrates the effectiveness at close range.

If the Feds would allow them to make a smooth bore revolver that fired .410s, I might buy one. The shot pattern would be much better with a smooth bore.

basically a good home defense gun. .410 buck.....good for 10 ft or so, wont over penitrate walls. the .45 long colt is a powerful round so not good for home defense. gun is tricky. wont take a bear unless you can pick away at 1 spot 5 times ......basically just a really nasty looking convo piece lol
