Trust me i know it's the most accurate handgun i've ever fired and i agree with you on second hand IF ya know what when where and how to look and the issues to look for to not purchase a pos.

Thanks again for all the advice. I'm a bit wary about buying secondhand as I definitely don't know what to look for, but I might give it a try. I looked at the EAA witness, it seems decent. I'd also like to take a closer look at CZ, they have some models right around the $500 range. Am also seriously considering the 910

Swizz, make sure you get a manual if you get a 910 or at least have show you how to take it down for cleaning it's a pain if you don't know how trust me i had to ask the guy how before i got it, only two levers on the pistol itself the safety and the slide release and to take it apart you have to pull the slide back just so far and push the slide release thru all the way then the slide comes off just watch out for that spring under the barrel that lil bastard will shoot itself accross a room if your not careful.

Any pistol's takedown can seem awkward at first but after you've done it a couple of times it will become second nature.

i agree there i can now take mine down in less then 10 seconds takes me a total of 20 to show somebody takedown and putting it back together

I asked a nearly identical question as the one that started this thread not long ago. The advice from all you guys has been great and very helpful. Here is what I went through buying my first gun.

I rented and shot many models and calibers at a range

I shot some friends guns

I looked at what my NEEDS where

After much much online research not just on this site I saw what brands and models had the options I wanted in my price range

Then I shopped and found a gun that I like on sale used

I liked it, no I loved it, but after owning it for a while I found it was too long in the grip for me to comfortably carry concield. So I sold it and took a $100 hit on the price, and used that money towards buying one that I know is more of what I need.

My lesson is yes, buy one used, but understand that it may not fit your needs after actually owning it for a bit. Be willing to lose a small sum of money in resale. That needs are different than wants. That only after owning it will I truly be able to asses how it fits me and my individual needs. Now I can more readily asses my wants and needs and am more sure in my purchase.

I bought an XDSC9, I love it. It may not be the right gun for you, but it is for me.

And of course, now I want another. I am saving for the XD 45 compact.

I disagree a little S&W. Someone with limited experience, even someone with a fair amount of experience, may decide after owning something for a time that it's just not quite right. I think that's probably happened to a lot of us.

Through your life as a gun owner Shawn, you will probably own a number of firearms that you won't necessarily keep forever for various reasons.

Reseach is no substitute for hands on experience and time. Things I did not even know to consider before became paramount once put into everyday practice. It is difficult to impossible for someone who has never carrier all day before to know exactly what will be comfortable for them. Or for a first time owner to understand what time and practice will reveal.
