10 yrs ago I needed a bird gun when I moved to western Kansas and got this.(actually a youth model) I now live in Eastern KS wher the turkey live. I have 5 other shotguns but they stay at home when it comes to killin' turkeys! This is a bone stock YOUTH model and I am a 250lb man...the guys laugh but with a Rem. full choke tube you can get at your local retailer...you are set...and i'm talking about a 20 gauge!! This is a well made shotgun that will meet every need..Don't go and blow money on a 1k shotgun..this was made to do a job and it does it well...It is sitting by my couch right now;...thats how much faith I have in the 870.

damn right ronzo, rock solid , gun and by the way 20ga is really under rated, with moderan shells the proformance is great ,and it does,nt kick as much in a pump ,and thats nice for smaller older men........like me...

I own the 870 18" model with the extended mag tube. I love this gun. It stays beside my bed at night loaded with Winchester personal protection 00 buckshot. Finest home defense weapon there is.

I was a firearms instructor for the state for about 6 years for Shotgun, Carbine, Handgun. We had many 870s all with 18in IC bbls with 00Buck.

I know many of them were there before I got there and hundreds of new hires and annual quals of a few hundred officers couldn't wear them out.

The Rem 870 & the Moss 500 are almost unbelievable.

2ndfan, CONGRATS on your new 870 Tactical!

In LE, it seemed most depts used the Rem 870 or the Moss 500 [cheapest models of course].

We were given a few #12 shotshells for door-breaching, but no one ever used them, since everyone was responsible for whatever/whoever was on the other side. CYA!!

Few doors need more than a good kick.

Now that I am "Joe Citizen", I am only concerned with keeping others "out".

My favorite option is the 7 rnd Mag tube, but a light could be priceless.

The Remington 870 is a classic American Shotgun. It is well balanced, has a smooth action, and is easy to break down for cleaning. My first 870 Wingmaster was a 20 guage passed down from grandfather over 20 years ago. He bought it to take my grandmother pheasant shooting some years before that, so I don't quite know how old mine is. It has of course always performed flawlessly in the field in pursuit of quail, dove, ducks, squirrel, rabbits etc., and was a staple for keeping the armadillos from digging up the vegetable garden. I once found a good price for an 870 12 guage and immediately snapped it up for my brother. If I only owned 1 shotgun, it would an 870 12-guage pump.

Just bought a 20ga Remington 870 pump action with combination barrels. My 13 year old boy wants to go hunting so I thought this would be a good gun for him. Looking forward to trying it out. I have some better Fibre Optic open sights on order that should be in next week.

JustBen, great choice there. Show your son how to clean it well and he should be able to see his grandkids shooting it.

I've taken a few deer with 20 ga slugs & all were 1 shot.

I'm looking to buy a shotgun for deer and turkey hunting. I found a Remington 870 express at my local gun store and loved the feel of it. I was just wondering how reliable and accurate this shotgun is and if it is better than a Mossberg 500. Thanks.
