I just bought a S&W model 36 chief's special

Classic design and rock-solid reliability. Discuss everything from a vintage Cowboy-action to a snub-nose .38 special.

I got one from a friend (for free... his wife just wanted him to get rid of it). When I got it, the cylinder wouldnt open at all. Took it to a gunsmith to see if it was in good shape or junk and he fixed it for $40 bucks (just a little rust, 1 pin replaced and a proper lube). The gun had almost certainly never been shot before. Now its my everyday carry. Absolutely great gun. Take it to the range about once a month. Its old enough to not take +P, but it seems to be a nail driver with Buffalo Bore Lead Hollow points (standard pressure).

What is the serial number? Just x out the last three numbers

for instance J265XXX. That way we can date it to see what it's birth day is. Mine is 1977. I carry my Chief's Special all the time.
