POOR WARRANTY AND SERVICE

Postby NEG-PT709 » Tue Oct 26, 2010 12:28 pm

DATE 10-26-2010

I HAVE A PT709 PISTOL (MFG. 2010) THAT AFTER SHOOTING MAYBE 50 ROUNDS OR LESS IT STARTED DROPPING THE MAGAZINE, AT FIRST I THOUGHT DUE TO DESIGN AND BEING A SMALLER PISTOL THAN I WAS USED TO, THAT I MIGHT BE HOLDING IT WRONG.

I TRIED HOLDING IT SEVERAL DIFFERENT WAYS AND IT STILL DROPPED DOWN, CAUSING THE NEXT SHELL NOT TO ENTER THE CHAMBER. I WAS ABLE TO MODIFY THE MAGAZINE WITH SEVERAL LAYERS OF A/C. TYPE FOIL TAPE WHICH HELPED HOLD THE MAGAZINE IN.

I THEN CONTACTED TAURUS WITH MY PROBLEM AND THEY SAID TO SEND IT TO THEM. I THOUGHT GREAT THEY HAVE A GOOD LIFE TIME WARRANTY WHICH I WAS AWARE OF PRIOR.

WHAT I DID NOT REALIZE IS THAT I WOULD BE PAYING ALMOST $60.00 FREIGHT AND INSURANCE TO BE ABLE TO SHIP IT. I ALSO SENT THEM A COUPLE OF OTHER QUESTIONS SUCH AS IF THE TRIGGER WAS CORRECT BECAUSE I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE LONG PULL. I ALSO ASKED ABOUT IT BEING HARD TO DISASSEMBLE, AND I ASKED ABOUT ONLY RECEIVING ONE KEY TO LOCK IT.

I DID RECEIVE THE PISTOL BACK FAIRLY QUICKLY (I RECEIVED IT TODAY SO I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIRE IT YET, BUT THEY SAID THAT THEY REPLACED THE MAG RELEASE, AND FIRED IT SEVERAL TIMES.

HOPEFULLY THIS IS TRUE. I WILL LET YOU KNOW IF IT IS NOT REPAIRED.

WHAT I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT AT THIS TIME IS THAT THEY DID NOT ADDRESS THE OTHER QUESTIONS THAT I ASKED ABOUT, AND MAINLY THE FACT, THAT I HAD TO PAY ALMOST $60.00 FOR FREIGHT TO GET A PISTOL REPAIRED THAT WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD. IT WAS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM FROM THE FACTORY AND I WOULD CONSIDER IT TO BE A DEFECT AND I SHOULD NOT BE OUT ALMOST $60.00 TO GET IT REPAIRED.

Yeah, this is why I will not buy another Taurus. I have two, one I am happy with which is a 9mm Mil Pro and the other which is a 357 tracker that I had to send in for repair. You would think a lifetime warranty would cover shipping. I have heard that if you really bitch enough they will cover the cost but I don't really know if that's true.

Buying a Taurus is like gambling, you may walk away with a great gun at a low price but looking at all the complaints on the net it would seem you also have just as much just as having an expensive paperweight.

Taurus MFG's headquarters for CS is in Flordia, and 90% of the people who work the CS department dont know thier job to start with. half of them dont sprecken zee english and the other half just dont care. the way it works is the actual MFG plant is in brazil, thats where the parts , weapons ect are machined. they are then shipped from brazil to FL where they go to TAURUS MFG. so odds are when you call up the CS department they dont know what your talking about or have run out of parts and are waiting for more to come from brazil. i waited 6 months for a locking block for my PT 92AF and never got it, ended up selling the pistol after buying a Beretta locking block. your lucky to have gotten it back quickly lol

Too bad Taurus won't consistantly go the extra step with customer satisfaction and service.....

That's pretty much crap when a customer has to pony up shipping on a brand new defective weapon without reimbursement. Everytime they pull this shit, they have lost another future buyer and how many others considering to buy?

I agree with BrianB.....it's a roll of the dice. If Taurus had a monoply going, a buyer would have no choice....but they are not the only game in town. I guess it's like a puppy that can't run with the big dogs.....best go lay on the porch for now....

Just had a minor issue with a Sig P238. Sig insisted I send it back. They sent a call tag to cover shipping, did the minor repair (spring) replaced the slide, barrel & holster and even the carry case and sent it back FREE. Not to mention that it was only out of my hands for 2 weeks!!! Taurus, S&W, Beretta....pay attention! THAT is Customer Service and that is why Sig can get the extra jing for their weapons. You get what you pay for.

Your problems started with you. You made the classic mistake of going back to the manufacturer ... any manufacturer. They don't really want to deal with the retail customer, and, really aren't equipped to do so. Some won't. They are set up to deal with distributors & authorized dealers & will kiss their ass whenever asked to do so.

For 30 years I only bought Colt, Browning & Ruger. 10 years ago I switched to Taurus & have never been happier. I've been totally happy with all of the guns, & they work flawlessly. The 5th one, a PT940 had a defect just like yours, but, I took my gun back to my dealer.

The dealer called Taurus & Taurus "overnighted" 2 new mags. But it didn't cure the problem. The dealer (not me) sent the gun back to Taurus. 3 days later the dealer said Taurus would take 6-8 weeks to fix the gun. I said "No good, I need the gun now."

The dealer called Taurus & Taurus authorized a full refund. Can you get better customer service than that??? #1 Buy from a reputable dealer ... preferably an authorized dealer of the Brand you intend to buy. #2 If you have a problem ... go back to the dealer & let him worry about calls, shipping etc.

Nuff said?
