Well, I finally made my decision. Ended up going off my original list. I bought a S&W model 637 (five shot .38) The thing weighs about 17 ounces fully loaded.

I can't wait until I can try it out this weekend!

exlimey - I just bought the SW 642 yesterday. 38+p has plenty of punch. 5 hollowpoint's should be enough to take care of most any situation. Excellent choice!

weekend, how much do those revolvers cost? I may have to get one. I'm waiting for my unarmed guard license to come. I will be taking the Armed Guard course sometime in June or July.

In Florida, guards are only allowed to carry .38's and I remember the instructor saying that 9mm might be allowed now, and only revolvers, if I remember correctly.

exlimey, how much was the 637? In a revolver, all I'm gonna look at will be Rugers or S&W's...

Cont2 - I bought mine at EOSS in Winter Park and paid $419 +tax (and the $5 background check call). It was new in box, and it was the silver/matte stainless color of scandium alloy, not the black colored one.

I would much rather throw a .38 +P hollowpoint at someone than a 9mm, but if you prefer 9mm and must have a revolver, i know that Taurus used to make a 9mm revolver that you can find sometimes as "new old stock" on gunbroker or something. But I would really recommend the SW airweight over that Taurus. I will be taking it to the range tomorrow or saturday - i'll let you know how it went.

weekend, I would probably go with the .38 revolver also. I've got one revolver in .22lr/mag. and two semi-auto .45's. I'd go for the revolver just for the variety aspect...Thanks. I'll look for a used one though.

In fact I've got a buddy who has two S&W .38's, not sure what model but he always says they're just sitting in a closet collecting dust. Maybe I can talk him out of one....cheap.

BTW, weekend, I know that area. Have you ever gone to the Jazz In The Park series at Central Park in WP?

CONT2 - I paid $421 out the door (that included tax and shipping.) I bought it through a FFL that runs an auto parts store. Gotta love living in the sticks!

I considered the Ruger SP101, but the S&W was about $30-$50 cheaper and smaller and lighter. Plus I have experience with S&W revolvers. I have a Ruger semi which has been flawless.

That's the best way to go. I wanted a Ruger P345 back in December. I went to a pawn shop who's main business was gold and loans. The guy had about 20 guns in the case and none of them were the one I wanted. He said he'd order anything for me at his cost + 10%, S&H and call-in fee. I ended up paying $470 out the door. I had seen the P345 advertized for $565.. all over town. He'll get my next order...
